About Steve Johnson

Mr. Steve Johnson, is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. The 1988 graduate of Virginia Tech 
is President of Johnson Commercial Development.

A two-time Honorable Mention All-American tight end, Johnson finished sixth on the Hokies’ all-time list for career receptions and eighth in touchdowns. Following his college career, he played for the New England Patriots. In 2013, Virginia Tech renamed its practice fields for Johnson.

Formed in 1995, Johnson Commercial Development has created employment for over 3,000, and developed more than 50 retail properties, totaling over 3 million square feet. His current development, The Pinnacle, a 1 million square foot premier lifestyle center in Bristol, Tennessee, serves consumers from a five-state region.

Johnson serves on several boards throughout the region, including Niswonger Children’s Hospital Foundation where he serves as Honorary Co-Chair.

Johnson has a passion for road racing; he is a top finisher in the Rolex Series historic 24 Hours at Daytona Race and current points leader in the Ferrari Challenge North American Series.

Johnson is most proud of his three children. Paulena, a 2016 graduate from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas; his second daughter, Lexi, a student at Virginia Tech; and his son, Steven, attends Sullins Academy in Bristol.
